Analogue notes of a travelling scientist

let's connect

“No place is boring, if you've had a good night's sleep and have a pocket full of unexposed film.”

A little about me...

I.

Slow photography

I was born and raised in Naples, Italy, and currently based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

I take all my photographs on 35 mm film while travelling around the world. I approached analogue photography about ten years ago as a way of slowing down and observing the world in a more careful and thoughtful way.

In the current digital era, taking photos exclusively on film is my own personal rebellion to our fast-paced way of living, and a society that increasingly values quantity over quality.

I like to capture street scenes, city architectures, and occasionally landscapes. I am particularly attracted to the contrast between natural and artificial elements.

II.

when art meets science

I have a PhD in Neuroscience and I have worked for several years in a research lab, capturing images of brain cells through the lens of a microscope. This is another reason why I enjoy film photography and the scientific process behind it. It is a creative journey where art and science meet, in the physics of light and lenses, in the chemistry of film emulsion and development, in the biology of the subjects I like to photograph.

My works have been displayed in various international exhibitions in Italy, France, Spain, UK, USA, Brazil, UAE. Some of my photographs have been published in magazines and collective photography books.
